Chapter 01
New gates, built to the opening, not off a shelf
A gate is custom-built to residential and commercial properties across New Canaan and Fairfield County: the width of the opening, the grade it swings over, and whether it's a single walk gate or a driveway pair all get measured before anything is built. A gate cut to a standard size and forced into an opening it wasn't built for is what leads to sag later.

Replacing a gate that's past saving
Not every gate is worth repairing. Wood rots at the bottom rail, hinges wear past the point of adjustment, or a gate was simply built too light for the opening it's covering. When that's the case, we replace it rather than keep patching a gate that's going to keep failing.
A replacement gate gets built to match the fence line it's part of, so it reads as one job instead of an obviously newer gate bolted onto an older run.
Chapter 03
Sag and latch repairs, fast
A sagging gate is almost always a hinge and post problem before it's a gate problem: the post has shifted, or the hinge hardware has worn past what it was rated for. Jennifer Mongeluzo has texted about a fence fix and had it done within a couple hours, and gate repairs are the job that most often works that way, because the fix is usually smaller than the sag makes it look.

Arbors and arched gates
Not every gate is a plain opening in a fence line. We build arched gates and arbor-topped gates for entries that are meant to be a feature of the property, not just a way through: an arched cedar gate between stone piers, or an arbor over a driveway or path entrance.
Those still get built to the same standard as a plain utility gate underneath the design: proper hinges, a post set correctly for the weight of the structure, and a swing that clears the ground.
